Digital technology: Glenn Boulter & Black Combe Junior School
School/Setting
Black Combe Junior School, Millom
Artist
Glenn Boulter – digital artist
Aims
Building upon recent work with the school, artist Glenn Boulter aimed to work further with teachers and Year 5/6 pupils at to:
- Explore and define ways of embedding the use of sound / recording technology within everyday teaching practices.
- Assist the school in the development of their technology room as an important resource both within the school and for other schools in the county to access.
- Further define ways that the room can be useful as a space for playing, performing and improvising with electronic music.
Process
Glenn worked with staff in discrete CPD sessions to develop skills in audio recording and then trialled these with a year 5 class.
Impact
A simple resource pack was produced by Glenn and the teacher which will assist Black Combe and can be shared with other schools using similar audio technology. Download the pack below. The artist valued taking time to work through artistic and technical processes with staff to ensure skills would remain in the class once he had left. Glenn was also inspired by the teacher finding uses for the recording processes that he had not thought of.
Next steps
Glenn plans to continue working with staff to develop interactive applications for their project tables and surround sound system. The resource pack will also be adapted and shared with other schools.
