Mentoring Programme

For several years we have run a programme to support Creative Practitioners who would like to work in schools and support teachers with the development of arts based activities and creative learning programmes.

It has provided less experienced practitioners with an opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by those who have more experience of working in this field. During 2010 the programme included the additional benefit of providing a bursary to individuals who wanted to further their professional development in different ways.

Overall, the programme has been highly successful and greatly valued by those who have participated.

2011 Programme

The feedback we received from our previous Mentored Training Programme, highlighted the need for additional support and training in the practical elements of working in different community settings. This Practitioner Placement Programme reflects this feedback offered opportunities for inexperienced artists to work alongside lead practitioners in order to gain support, guidance and experience and to develop skills and knowledge of participatory arts projects.

Overall the placements provided opportunities to participate in some or all of the following:

• Attend directed training and development sessions
• Observe lead practitioners and other exemplars of relevant practice
• One to one sessions with lead practitioners
• Working with partners on planning and developing activities
• Working with participants to deliver arts activities under supervision
