Creative Practice :
I am a full-time professional storyteller with a national reputation for creating and touring performance pieces based on folktales and myths. I work in theatres, schools, literature festivals, libraries, museums, community events and at conservation and heritage sites across the UK. Appearances include The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, and collaborations with the prestigious Crick Crack Club at the Soho and Tristan Bates Theatres in London's West End. In early 2009 I was awarded the New Directions Commission by Cambridge Storytelling Festival.
Education Practice :
The deep bag of tricks at a performance storyteller's disposal allows the teller to create, perform and direct their own work, creating the vivid world of the story, in the moment, for the audience - I use this range of skills, techniques and approaches to help young people to find their voices, to delight in playing with imagery and language, and to create and perform stories with a confidence and complexity that is often moving to watch, and which often astonishes themselves! Storytelling is a very personal and exposing artform: expressing themselves through it is an empowering experience that leaves children with greater self-esteem and communication skills.
