Creative Practice :

I’m a hard working and creative performance poet. I've performed my poetry in pubs, cafes, and theatres, on the radio at festivals and on the street since 1992. My main motivator is to engage and connect with the general public. In 2006 I was the Poet Laureate for South Cumbria. My most recent collection 'Synesthetic' explored the emotions of poetry in relation to colour. Prior to that I collaborated with sonic artist Shaun Blezard on 'The Resting Bench' which featured poetry and sounds from Barrow Island. I am also a theatre director and songwriter, comedienne. I use all these skills in workshops and performances as appropriate.

Education Practice :

As a freelance performance poet and arts practitioner I’ve been delivering workshops in formal and non formal settings for over ten years. I work with all age groups and abilities. I lead workshops in poetry slams, poetic forms, performance technique, theatre scriptwriting, stand up comedy, songwriting, drama, creative writing with sonic art and creative writing collaborations. I also have a PGCE in Further Education. In my role as a performing arts tutor at Furness College I designed and delivered high quality creative workshops within the formal education sector. I also enjoyed directing the final major productions for the BTEC Performing Arts students at Furness College. I majored in theatre directing during my degree at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. I regularly attend creative writing workshops to update my ongoing professional development. I’m a member of NAWE (National Association of Writers in Education) and NALD (National Association of Literature Development) I have an enhanced CRB certificate, Public Liability Insurance, Full driving licence and my own car.
